In 1923 one of the very first conservation of forests in Norway happened where we will bring you. They conserved 3 acres with ancient spruce forest, and some trees were about 200 years old, which is old for a spruce. Several of the giant grains have now fallen, but we still find trees over 100 cm in diameter here.
Also, the longest pilgrim route in Norway, and the main road to Nidaros, todays Trondheim, during the Middle Ages pass through this forest region.
You will stay in a comfortable guesthouse with a veranda with a beautiful view over Mjøsa.

Day 2 Forest hiking
Go for a morning walk if you like and then enjoy a late breakfast at the veranda.
On this trip’s initial outing our guide will take you for a walk in ”urskogen”. Here we may find tracks and signs of them while we learn about the inhabitants of our old forests. Moose, Beavers, Wolves and Bears all live here, and we are visiting their home. We search for paw prints, droppings, killed prey and other tracks that can prove that animals are nearby.
There is a lot to see on a forest walk.
During July, August or September the forest floor is covered in berries and mushrooms of all kinds. Pick as much as you like.
We return to the guesthouse where we will serve a lunch – local food – Innlandstapas. There will be some free time in the afternoon to relax, spend time in the hot tub or sauna, or go for a hike or ride bike.
We return to the guesthouse after sunset late at night.
Day 3 Beaver watching and canoe trip
After breakfast our guide will take you for a canoe trip at the lake Lysjøen. Here it is ideal to search for Beavers and other wildlife. We usually start out canoeing together and then you are free to explore the lake on your own.
You can go for a hike in the woods, explore the lake by canoe, go for a wild swim, go birdwatching, pick endless amounts of berries in season, mushrooms and edible plants, meditate among tall trees, chop firewood or just hang out by the camp fire with the others.
We will prepare lunch together at the camp fire at Lysjøen. Remember to bring marshmallows 😉
Enjoy the rest of this afternoon by Lysjøen or go for a hike in the surroundings.
